How to calculate age from date of birth
To calculate age manually, subtract your date of birth from the date you want to check, which is usually today. Follow these steps:
- Subtract the birth year from the current year. This gives the years.
- Subtract the birth month from the current month. If the answer is negative, reduce the years by 1 and add 12 to the months.
- Subtract the birth day from the current day. If the answer is negative, reduce the months by 1 and add the number of days in the previous month.
Leap years and months with 28, 30 or 31 days make this tricky to do by hand. The calculator handles all of this automatically, so the result stays accurate.
Age calculation example
Date of birth: 15 August 2000. Age as on: 10 October 2026.
